Caption Contest #1

Hey, guys! For everyone keeping track of the website, I’m here to let you know that the Keyboard Samurai are starting a new game on the Facebook group! Before every show, I’ll be posting a new picture of the cast in costume doing something funny. Your job is to reply with something the characters could be saying. The winner, chosen by the cast, will be awarded a free VIP pass to the next show. For the full rules and picture, head on over to the discussion board. You must reply to the discussion board in order to have your entry considered, so don’t reply here with your caption. Good luck, and remember to have fun with it!

February 26, 2010 – Back in Action…

It’s official.

Keyboard Samurai will be back on stage in February after a holiday hiatus. Tickets will once again be made available online before the show, so theres no reason to be one of the unlucky fans who are turned away at the door. The last two shows were sold out, with some customers opting to purchase tickets for a standing room only show. Keep your eye on the site, and on Facebook for updates.

Additionally, this will be Kira Philips’ first show taking the role of Director while I am on leave. Drawing on a professional background in theater, and as Keyboard Samurai’s long time Stage Manager she is sure to continue what we have began. Congradulations Kira, make me proud and knock ‘em dead.

The tally is in…

As the director of Keyboard Samurai, I am can not express how proud I am of my cast. On October 30th and 31st Keyboard Samurai volunteered as actors and technical crew for our venues annual haunted walk. From cannibalistic transients to an undead weatherman and emotionally distressed suicide victims, we entertained the guests and provided the terror and fun through out the swamp’s haunted walk. What I am most proud of is that Keyboard Samurai helped raise over $11,000 for the Enzian’s Young Filmmakers’ Summer Camp.

This combined with our current project with Operation Shoebox makes me all the prouder to be a Samurai.

Congratulations to the cast for a wonderful job!

Friday the 13th…

Spooky Empire: A Weekend for Shadowcasting

Well, last weekend was Spooky Empire’s convention held in Orlando. Packed full of horror geeks, celebrities, and costumes, Spooky Empire truly lived up to its moniker of “Ultimate Horror Weekend”. The Keyboard Samurai were in attendance (those who could scrape up the time and money to do so), as well as Unworthy Heirs, Degenerates, 21st Century’s Cure, and I believe I heard tell of some members from the SoCal army, most of them appearing on Friday to watch Midnight Cinema’s performance of Repo!, in which yours truly played Shilo. The night went off well, with only some AV problems that put the show back, but did lead to Pavi and the Genterns having an impromptu Sexy Party, so I ask you, was it really for the worst? (If I manage to find video of the actual party, I’ll make sure to post it.) Among the celebrities at the convention were none other than Terrance Zdunich, Darren Smith, Bill Moseley, and J. LaRose. It was certainly an honor to perform in front of them, and I hope that they will return to Florida in the future for more of our army’s shenanigans. There was a spectacular turn out for the show, and the little room was packed with people so in love with Repo! to the point where they would sacrifice the well-being of their spines and sit on the floor for over two hours peering over heads to see the stage. At the end of the night, I was pretty sure some people would need to contact Geneco in order to walk again. That said, the weekend was a resounding success, and the love and knowledge of Repo! was spread to others around the convention like the bubonic plague spread through Europe (with lots of screams and oozing pustules?).

Saturday night held a special surprise for me, as The Crazy Random Happenstance Shadowcast for Dr. Horrible made an appearance. (I seem to be failing at finding their YouTube account, so if anyone can give me a link, I’d be much obliged.) I’ve mentioned them previously in regards to their performance at Metrocon, and since then they’ve only improved. Their timing is still spot on and now their collection of props has been increased and perfected. They even handed out a multi-page script of possible callbacks, including my personal favorite, a reference to Kanye West’s ever-thriving ego, as Dr. Horrible stops Captain Hammer mid-speech with his freeze ray – you can imagine. I’m most definitely hoping to see them continue in their efforts to bring Dr. Horrible to people around Florida, as they are an exemplary shadowcast. And with luck, perhaps sometime in the future The Keyboard Samurai can have a back-to-back night with CRH. So if you know of them having a show at some convention around Florida, definitely check them out; I can promise you the hour is well worth it.
